Winter sports in 'Eleven-City Country'When snow falls - and especially when the ice is nice and thick - being in and around De Kuilart is absolutely wonderful. During these freezing periods, various ice-skating tours are held - who hasn't heard of the Eleven-City Tour and the Eleven-Lake Tour? But smaller tours like the one around Koudum and the Fûgelhoek Tour are fun to skate, too. You can also cross-country ski through the farmlands or through the Gaasterland woods. And if there's no snow or ice, a good alternative is a walk in the wind on the IJsselmeer dike - time out for a little fresh air! At these times, you can practice your skating inside at Thialf, the world-famous ice stadium in Heerenveen, or how about taking a look at the skaters of yesteryear at the interesting Schaatsmuseum (skating museum) in Hindeloopen?
